Storm the Place: Bastille Day 2015

Originally published @ Open Arts Philly

July 4th has come and gone, and I bet you’re already missing the fireworks. Still feeling patriotic? This year, celebrate like a Francophile and attend Bastille Dayfestivities at the Eastern State Penitentiary! Here are three ways to do it:

  1. Dress Up
Quick: here’s a quick game of “Would you Rather?” Revolution or Preservation? Storming the Bastille or Stopping the Revolt? That’s right- I’m talking peasants vs. aristocrats! Dress up in the threads of your chosen side and may the queen be with you…
  2. Meet Celebs
This year Bastille Day features some pretty fascinating characters! The Bearded Ladies troupe will be there performing complete reenactments of the French Revolution after 5:30 pm. Celebrity guests of the day include: Edith Piaf, Napoleon Bonaparte, Joan of Arc and Philly’s very own Benjamin Franklin!
  3. Eat Cake
When a queen tells you to eat cake, you should probably listen lest you risk a beheading! This year, follow Marie Antoinette’s orders by allowing others to throw TastyCakes at you from the tops of the castle walls. Don’t feel too bad- you can eat your fill!

If you are an Open Arts member RSVP here. For more information, visit us at: We can’t wait to see you there!
